Introduction · v1.3.1 beta 1

Everything Voidd does,
in plain words.

One desktop app for every AI model you use. This page walks through each feature, how to install it with one line, and what changed in every version.

Start here

Install in one line.

Open Terminal (macOS, Linux) or PowerShell (Windows), paste one line, press Enter. The script picks the right build for your computer, downloads it, checks its SHA-256 against latest.json and installs it. Nothing runs if the checksum does not match.

curl -fsSL https://voidd.dev/install.sh | sh

Mounts the disk image, copies Voidd to Applications and clears the download flag, so macOS does not stop you with a "cannot verify the app" prompt. Apple silicon and Intel are both handled.

Prefer to do it by hand?

Download the file yourself and verify it. File names follow the current release.

curl -fLO https://voidd.dev/download/Voidd-1.3.1-beta.1-mac-arm64.dmg
curl -fLO https://voidd.dev/download/Voidd-1.3.1-beta.1-linux-amd64.deb && sudo apt install ./Voidd-1.3.1-beta.1-linux-amd64.deb
shasum -a 256 Voidd-*.dmg

Every file and its SHA-256 are listed in latest.json. Or use the download buttons on the home page.

This beta is not code-signed. Installing through the terminal avoids the first-launch warning on macOS. On Windows, SmartScreen may still ask you to confirm once.

The idea

Your models. Your keys. Your desk.

Voidd is a desktop chat for people who use more than one AI. You bring the API keys, Voidd brings one calm place to use all of them. Nothing is hosted for you, and there is no account to create.

One app, every model

Add as many providers as you like. All their models sit in one picker, and you can switch mid-conversation.

It does the work

Ask for a slide deck, a report or a spreadsheet and get a real file back, with a Download button right in the chat.

You stay in charge

Keys sit in your system keychain, chats are encrypted on disk, and tools only run after you approve them.

Providers and models

Not tied to any vendor.

Each provider has its own address, API key and protocol. Use hosted services, OpenRouter, a model running on your own machine, or any server that speaks the OpenAI or Anthropic API.

  • Presets built in: Voidd, OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, Ollama and Custom. Paste a key and go.
  • Two protocols, or let it decide: OpenAI-compatible, Anthropic-compatible, or automatic by model name.
  • Checked when you add it: Voidd calls the provider's model list, so you see right away whether the key and address work, and which models you can use.
  • Balance in view for providers that publish usage.
  • Your own servers: plain http:// is accepted only for your own machine or private network, so keys never travel unencrypted across the internet.
  • Network settings: follows your system proxy and certificates, or set a proxy of your own.
  • Search the model picker by name; switch models in the middle of a chat.

Reasoning levels

Thinking depth, one tap away.

Open the model menu and pick how hard the model should think: Default, Off, Low, Medium or High. Voidd sends the parameters each model expects, so one control works across Claude, GPT and others.

Per model

The level is remembered for each model, and shown on the model button so you always know what is selected.

Right request for each protocol

Adaptive thinking for current Claude models, token budgets for earlier ones, reasoning effort for OpenAI-style models.

Hidden when it does not apply

Models without reasoning (embeddings, older families) simply do not show the control. The model's thinking appears in its own collapsible box and never ends up in what you copy.

New in 1.1.0 beta 2

Ask for a file. Get the file.

Say what you need: "make a 10-slide deck about our Q3 results", "turn this into a Word report", "build a budget spreadsheet", "make a 10-second motion graphic intro". Voidd creates the real file on your computer and shows it in the chat as a card with Open and Download.

PowerPoint.pptx

Title slide, bullet slides, tables and speaker notes.

Word.docx

Headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and code blocks.

Excel.xlsx

Several sheets, a styled header row, auto-sized columns and live formulas.

PDF.pdf

A clean A4 document made from the same content as a Word file.

Video.mp4

Motion graphics up to 30 seconds and 1080p, drawn with code and rendered as H.264 on your computer.

Text and code.md .csv .json .html .py …

Any text format, saved exactly as written.

  • Files are created on your machine. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
  • Videos are rendered locally: the model writes the drawing code, Voidd runs it in an isolated window with no network or file access and encodes the frames to H.264.
  • Open launches the file in your default app (Office, Keynote, Preview and so on). Download opens a Save dialog so you choose where it goes.
  • Script and program files can be saved but are never opened from the card.
  • Spreadsheet formulas that reach out to the network or run commands are kept as plain text.
  • Works with any model that supports tool calling. If a model cannot call tools, it will only reply with text.

Chat

A fast, quiet chat.

Answers stream in as they are written. Everything you would expect is here, with the little things done properly.

Reading

  • Full Markdown: tables, nested lists, task lists, syntax-colored code.
  • Copy button on every code block and message.
  • Token counts in and out for each reply, when the server reports them.

Control

  • Stop mid-answer, regenerate, retry after an error.
  • Edit a message you already sent and resend it.
  • A reply cut off by a limit or a dropped connection is marked, with a Continue button.

Attachments

  • Add images and text files by choosing, dragging or pasting.
  • Images go to models that can see; files are passed in as readable text.

Your library

  • Pin, rename, delete, select several at once.
  • Search across all conversations.
  • Export a chat as Markdown or JSON.

Assistants and Code

Give every task the right voice.

An assistant is a saved set of instructions. Pick one at the start of a chat and the model answers in that role.

Assistants

Five come ready: Default, Programmer, Editor, Translator and Tutor. Make your own with a name, an icon and your own prompt, and edit or delete them any time. They are saved in your backup.

Code view

A separate workspace for programming conversations that remembers context from one message to the next, with the output kept in its own pane. It is a text conversation: it does not open your folders or run commands on your computer.

Tools through MCP

Tools, with approval on your side.

MCP lets a model use outside tools: read files, browse the web, look up documentation. Connect local servers or remote ones, including servers that need an OAuth sign-in.

  • Local or remote: run a server on your machine, or connect to one over HTTP or SSE with OAuth 2.1.
  • You see every call: the exact input is shown before anything runs.
  • Three choices: Allow once, Always allow this server, or Deny. A denial is reported back to the model.
  • Starter servers: a browser (Playwright) and a library-docs lookup are one click away.
  • Turn tools off for a chat when you do not want any. Secrets for servers are sealed in the keychain.

Privacy and security

Nothing leaves except what you send.

Voidd has no analytics and no account. Your messages go only to the providers you added, and tool calls go only to servers you added and approved.

Keys in your keychain

API keys and tokens are sealed by the system keychain (macOS Keychain, Windows, Linux keyring). If Linux has no keyring, the app says so plainly.

Encrypted chats

Every conversation is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it is written to disk. If the key cannot be opened, the app stops instead of overwriting your data.

Careful networking

Requests may only go to your providers. Redirects are followed only within the same server, so keys and chats are never forwarded elsewhere.

Backup you control

Export chats, Code sessions, assistants and provider lists to a file, and import them on another computer. Backups never include API keys.

Diagnostics, redacted

Logs and the diagnostics report hide keys. Copy the report or open the log folder from Settings when you need help.

Open-source licenses

The full list of third-party licenses ships with the app and opens from Settings.

Make it yours

Set it up your way.

Looks

Light, dark or follow the system. Six accent colors, type size and chat width.

Voice

Your name, standing instructions for every chat, temperature, maximum tokens and how many past messages to send.

Keys

Send with Enter or with ⌘/Ctrl+Enter, your choice.

The app's interface is in Vietnamese. Models answer in whatever language you write in.

Updates

Press Update. Done.

Voidd checks for new versions in the background. What happens next depends on your system, and the app tells you which case you are in.

Windows installer, Linux AppImage and .deb

Downloads in the background, then asks you to restart. One click.

macOS (beta builds)

Not code-signed yet, so the app cannot replace itself. Press Update and the download page opens, ready to pick your build. Or run the one-line install again: it replaces the app in place.

Channels

Stable or Beta, chosen in Settings. Turn auto-check or auto-download off if you prefer. After an update the app shows what's new, and the full history is always in Settings and below.

Keyboard shortcuts

Hands on the keys.

⌘/CtrlKNew chat
⌘/CtrlFSearch conversations
⌘/CtrlBShow or hide the sidebar
⌘/Ctrl,Settings
EscClose a menu

Platforms and limits

Three systems. Honest edges.

macOS

Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 12 or later. Disk image or one-line install.

Windows

Windows 10 or later, x64 and ARM64. Installer or portable build.

Linux

AppImage or .deb for x64 and ARM64.

  • This is a beta. It has been tested most on macOS; the Windows and Linux builds are produced and checked automatically but have had less hands-on use.
  • There is no code-signing certificate yet, so Windows may show SmartScreen and macOS builds update through the download page.
  • Remote MCP servers that need OAuth have not been tested against every service.
  • Images stay in the encrypted store, so chats with many images grow over time.

Questions

Quick answers.

Do I need an account?

No. You need an API key from a provider, or the address of a server you run yourself.

Why did the AI not give me a file?

File creation needs a model that supports tool calling, and the request must be for a file. Ask directly, for example "make this a Word document". If the model still replies with text only, try another model.

Where are my files stored?

In the app's data folder until you press Download, which saves a copy wherever you choose. Chats you export or back up do not carry the files along.

Is the install script safe to run?

It is a short, readable shell script at install.sh (and install.ps1 for Windows). Open it first if you like. It only downloads from this site and verifies every file's SHA-256 before installing.

How do I uninstall?

macOS: drag Voidd from Applications to the Trash. Windows: Settings → Apps. Linux: sudo apt remove voidd or delete the AppImage. Your chats live in the app data folder and can be exported first from Settings.

Make your AI
yours.

Install in one line, add a key, and start. It takes about a minute.

curl -fsSL https://voidd.dev/install.sh | sh
